Still in an early stage of development? Insider gives details

While Ubisoft continues to hold back on concrete details about the remake of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”, insider Tom Henderson would like to know more again. According to Henderson, the remake is still in early development and will be presented shortly.

In May 2022, Ubisoft announced that the company decided to pull Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time from its Pune and Mumbai offices respectively and the remake at Ubisoft Montreal to accommodate.

Apart from the fact that the remake is coming in 2023 an “important internal milestone” reached, Ubisoft has not yet given any further details. Here the well-known leaker and industry insider Tom Henderson steps into the breach once again. As Henderson reports, citing his sources, the remake of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” is still in the early stages of development.

This is mainly due to the fact that Ubisoft Montreal completely restarted the development of the remake and threw out the progress that the developers in Pune and Mumbai were making.

Ubisoft Montreal should rely on a realistic approach

As Henderson reports, Ubisoft is said to have taken a more realistic approach to the realization of the remake than Ubisoft's Indian branches and has completely reworked the graphics. In addition, according to Henderson, there are new animations and new mechanics for the combat and parkour systems.

If the information provided by the insider, who is considered a reliable source, corresponds to the facts, then Ubisoft Montreal “completely rewrote the game” and recorded it in motion capture. When it comes to the protagonist of the remake, there is another innovation compared to the original “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”.

Accordingly, the main character should be recast because Yuri Lowenthal, who played the Persian prince in the original, is not returning in the remake. Henderson hasn't yet been able to find out who will take on the role of the prince in the remake.

Is Ubisoft planning an announcement soon?

As already mentioned at the beginning, the remake of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” is still in the early stages of development, according to Henderson. Videos that were leaked to the insider are said to have made this clear. All sorts of textures and assets were still missing here.

This suggests that the project still has a lot of development time ahead of it. Despite everything, Ubisoft is said to be planning an “soon announcement” about the new edition. Henderson didn't get any more specific here.

If the information provided by the known insider turns out to be true, then the said announcement could be made within the framework of the next “Ubisoft Forward” episode take place. A few days ago, Ubisoft announced that the event would take place on June 10, 2024.

Unconfirmed reports According to “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”, another remake could be presented. We're talking about “Splinter Cell”, the remake of which Ubisoft is already releasing in 2021 officially announced.
