Released on September 1, 2023 via early access, Starfield caused a lot of buzz at the time of its release. Despite its average of 83/100 on Metacritic and 85/100 on OpenCritic, Bethesda's game was strongly criticized by some players. Long perceived as a game of space conquests like Elite Dangerous or No Man's Sky, Starfield was ultimately “one”Bethesda RPG set in space. Ultimately closer to a Mass Effect than to a Star Citizen, the software imagined by Todd Howard and his teams uses mechanics which have been judged to belong to another era.
Since then, in the minds of a lot of people, Starfield has been a kind of failure.. While he promised to be revolutionary in his presentation videos, he ultimately walked away without distinction at major award shows. However, on December 20, Bethesda claimed that the title had managed to attract 13 million players since its release. Among them, 5 million astronauts reached the game's credits. The group also revealed that the average playing time was 40 hours, which is a more than respectable score for a 100% single-player game. .
Shattered Space, and more
So now, what can we expect from Starfield? After a few small updates improving the user experience, the title should see major content arrive soon. Asked at Kinda Funny, Todd Howard, the boss of Bethesda, provided various information. The first is that the expansion called Shattered Space will arrive this fall. We don't yet know what this new adventure will be about, but we should hear about it at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
The second is that new updates will arrive very soon. They will bring “new display modes” on console, new features for building ships, maps for cities, lots of new options for the game but also for the difficulty, as well as “surprises”. With support for mods on consoles, the arrival of the Creation Kit and the promise of “lots of DLC of varying sizes”, Starfield should be talked about over the next few years. In a positive way, we hope.
