Starfield: release of Shattered Space DLC confirmed for end of 2024 | Xbox

Available since September 6, 2023, Starfield has received several updates since then, but those who really enjoyed the game are eagerly awaiting substantial new content. And this is what is being prepared with the Shattered Space DLC which has just been confirmed for the end of the year.

Bethesda is aware that Starfield doesn't have more for everyone

It was during a new Kinda Funny Games podcast that Todd Howard, designer at Bethesda, gave some information about Starfield. He first recalled that the reception of the game was very good and that his teams had broken records in terms of attendance for a game when it was released. But he also admits that a certain part of the players did not appreciate the game as much, and justifies himself again with the choices made by his teams.

We see the feedback, we see a lot of players telling us what they want from a Bethesda game, which is “to explore a world in a certain way, and that Starfield didn't offer me . I prefer the way it’s done in Fallout or Elder Scrolls.”

And that's perfectly understandable, in terms of a different experience. I think for us, and me in particular making a science fiction game, I want to be able to land on every planet. I want the game to say yes to us knowing that this content will be different than what we've seen in the past when you're exploring a landscape and that's one of the compromises we'll make to get there.

We're making compromises to do what we think is best for a sci-fi game like this that's based on this kind of fiction and reality to make it what it needs to be. And you know, each franchise has to be unique.

A Starfield update coming soon

We knew that Starfield's first DLC, called Shattered Space, was planned for this year 2024, and Todd Howard confirmed that its release was planned for the end of the year. He also clarified that the creation kit which allows the creation of official mods was still in the hands of a few modders and that the work was progressing well. Some of them were also hired by Bethesda to move forward on the project.

Todd also hinted that a new Starfield update would be announced later this week, specifying that it would contain updates to the game's ship building mechanics. An announcement is expected this week.

I think it will be announced in a few days, actually this week, and will be available on Steam beta. It has some awesome stuff for building ships.

We also redid the map so we have things on the city map.

Starfield remains available on Xbox Series X|S, PC and is of course included in the Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass catalog.
