Based on current reports, Lucasfilm is working on a new “Star Wars” trilogy. Simon Kinberg, who has already gained experience with the star saga in recent years, will be responsible for this.
Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away… Probably the most famous opening words in film history belong to entire generations “Star Wars” fans familiar and it seems that work is currently underway on a new trilogy! At least when we meet our colleagues at the industry magazine, who are usually extremely well connected Deadline can believe who were the first to report on this development in an exclusive report.
According to the said report, Lucasfilm has signed a deal with screenwriter and film producer Simon Kinberg. He will both contribute the scripts for the three films and produce them together with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy. Kinberg's works will be particularly familiar to fans of various superhero blockbusters, as he worked on action films such as “X-Men: Future is Past”, “Logan – The Wolverine” and “Deadpool”.
Confusion about trilogy: Conflicting reports circulating
In addition, Simon Kinberg can look back on many years of experience in the cosmos of the legendary star saga. Together with Dave Filoni (“The Mandalorian”) and Carrie Beck (“Star Wars Resistance”), he created the animated series “Star Wars Rebels”. He also contributed the scripts for a significant portion of the popular adventure show and accompanied the series as an executive producer throughout its run.
He also worked as a consultant on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. According to Deadline editor Mike Fleming Jr., Kinberg's “Star Wars” trilogy is said to be nothing less than “Episodes 10-12” and thus the continuation of the Skywalker saga. However, there are currently conflicting reports circulating in this regard, which is causing confusion among fans.
Other Deadline sources claim to have learned, for example, that Simon Kinberg's films are supposed to tell a completely new story, separate from the previous star saga. The Hollywood Reporter agrees with these reports and would like to know that the trilogy in question should not only tell a new story, but also focus on new characters. Variety also reports on a continuation of the Skywalker saga.
It is rare that three such large and reliable industry magazines contradict each other. That's why we'll have to wait a little longer before more information about the upcoming “Star Wars” trilogy is revealed. Maybe it won't take too long: From November 8th to 10th, 2024, the D23 Brazil, an extension of Disney's in-house exhibition in Latin America, will take place in São Paulo for the first time.
In addition to Simon Kinberg's film trilogy, Lucasfilm also has other projects in the works. These include films by Donald Glover (“Solo: A Star Wars Story”), James Mangold (“Le Mans 66 – Against Every Odds”), Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) and Taika Waititi (“Thor: “Decision Day”).
