One of the biggest criticisms of “Star Wars Outlaws” is the sometimes frustrating stealth missions. Creative Director Julian Gerighty admitted this in an interview and promised that his team would like to remedy this.
Shortly before the release last week we received the international test ratings to “Star Wars Outlaws”which indicated that the open-world title did not quite live up to the expectations placed on it.
The community expressed criticism. The sometimes merciless stealth missions, in which even the smallest mistake can mean failure, have caused frustration in recent days. Ubisoft Massive's Julian Gerighty addressed this issue in an interview. As the creative director admitted, internal data had shown that the missions in question did not actually work as his team had intended.
Internally, the developers have been thinking about how the missions can be improved over the last few days. The good news is that, according to Gerighty, an update to “Star Wars Outlaws” may be released in the next ten days that will make the stealth missions a little less difficult.
Creative Director faces criticism
“So. You're probably thinking of one of the early missions in Mirogana, which is incredibly punishing,” said Gerighty to Gamesradar. “And for me that's a mistake. That's something we're going to work on to improve. […] I don't think it means removing the failure state completely.”
“But I think there are millions of obvious ways we can improve it to make it much more enjoyable and understandable,” the creative director continued.
According to Gerighty, the developers wanted to create additional excitement with the stealth missions. The team may have gone a bit overboard in doing so. Gerighty continued: “We just don't want it to feel unfair.”
“And today I think it seems unfair. Believe it or not, that was not our intention. It's more something that has crept in over the last few weeks. We are already correcting that with a patch that will be released in maybe ten days.”
Stealth missions should become fairer
Game Director Mathias Karlson also expressed the goal of ensuring a fairer and therefore more entertaining gaming experience in the stealth missions. According to Karlson, the main goal here is to ensure that the missions are not automatically considered a failure as soon as the protagonist Kay is seen by her opponents.
Instead, the concept was for players to be able to take action to prevent an alarm from being triggered.
“However, if it turns out that this does not fit with the current vote and with enough people, we will of course take this very, very seriously and will investigate it,” the game director concluded.
“Star Wars Outlaws” is available for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
