Sony confirms: The PS5 has reached its peak

The PS5 has been on the market for just over three years now. While initially there was hardly any opportunity to get hold of the console, the current PlayStation is now available in abundance. Supply increases, demand comes to a standstill. This hasn't gone unnoticed by Sony, as a current annual report shows.

Sony expects PS5 sales to fall

Sony wants to sell an impressive 25 million PS5 consoles this fiscal year – or at least that was the plan so far. However, the company apparently gambled a bit too high, at least that's what the company's current annual report suggests.

Sony admits that it no longer expects to reach its sales target of 25 million. Instead, the sales forecast reduced to 21 million PS5 consoles sold. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Because according to a statement in the official document, sales of the PS5 will only continue to decline from now on:

As for the PS5 hardware, which is entering its fifth year since launch: Due to entering the second half of the console cycle, we aim to optimize sales with greater emphasis on balancing with profits.

We therefore expect one gradual decline in sales from the next financial year.

Hype about Xbox: Could Microsoft give Sony a hand?

Not only is the PS5 selling worse and worse, the current Xbox generation also seems to be staying on the shelves more and more often. There are currently rumors about a realignment of the Xbox brand. Microsoft is said to be planning to release some of its exclusive games also portable to other platforms – including for the PS5.

The could boost sales of the PS5 – although probably only slightly. The fact is: the days when gamers literally snatch the PlayStation 5 out of Sony's hands are over.

However, this circumstance could pay off for all players who have waited until now to buy the PS5. Because PS5 prices are already falling in other countries:
