Skyblivion: the unofficial remake of Oblivion planned for 2025 still looks crazy | Xbox

The modding community around Bethesda games is known for producing high-quality projects, such as Enderal: Forgotten Stories. Among upcoming productions, we can also count on Fallout London, Skywind and Skyblivion. It is the latter that interests us today, since after Skywind, TESRenewal shared a new video on its unofficial remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Progress on the Oblivion remake presented

In this new presentation of almost 15 minutes, the volunteer development team looks back with humor on its progress, and more particularly a part of the world, a city, the Ayleid dungeons and much more.

On the gameplay side, the studio offers a preview of the completely redesigned menus that will await players when creating the character or even during the assignment of a level. Also, we can discover the lockpicking system which has been completely redone and improved in the Skyrim engine.

The work is obviously colossal and impressive, especially since it is carried out by a volunteer team of more than 50 people. If you would like to participate in the ambitious project, you can then apply to this address.

The release of Skyblivion is still scheduled for 2025. It will be free to download for all owners of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition on Steam.

As always, TESRenewal has taken care to integrate French subtitles, so don't hesitate to activate them to make sure you understand everything!

What about the official Oblivion remaster?

Remember that an official remaster of Oblivion was initially planned to be released during Bethesda's fiscal year 2024, according to a document used in the trial between the FTC and Microsoft for the purchase of Activision Blizzard King. A month before, an alleged former employee of Virtuos Games in Paris allegedly claimed that such a project was indeed in development within the studio, under the name Project Altar.

The title would be developed with the Unreal Engine 5 to offer up-to-date visuals, but the gameplay and physics would remain provided by the Oblivion engine. According to him, the game would be mainly developed in Paris, helped by Black Shamrock, another studio belonging to Virtuos, and located in Dublin. A release at the end of 2024/beginning of 2025 would be considered.

It remains to be seen whether this new official version of Oblivion will actually see the light of day and whether Bethesda will not oppose the release of Skyblivion. What if Xbox made the announcement official during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9?
