Settlers + Anno + fairy tale = happy ending?

Once upon a time there was a traditional German game series called The Settlers, which was loved and sought after throughout the construction game country. But over time she became more and more like one from her king Ubisoft unloved stepchild treated. This made the country's pious builders very sad. As word of this misfortune spread, lesser lords arrived on the scene, bringing with them new building games to lift the spirits of the sad building kingdom players. The most famous among them was undoubtedly the old settler veteran Volker Wertich, who brought great hope to the empire with Pioneers of Pagonia. But today's story shouldn't be about him. Our story revolves around the fairytale fabledom with which two Swedish lords want to reconnect with the good old settler days. But does the challenger also have what it takes for a happy ending?

Fairy Tale Settlers

Please forgive us for the playful introduction, but how often can we test a game that revolves around fairy tales? And the fairy tale theme is proudly celebrated everywhere in Fabledom. As soon as you arrive in the main menu, you are greeted by an English speaker who occasionally comments on events with smug sayings as the game progresses. For example, when you put the first production buildings on the map. The fairy tale potential is far from being exhausted.

In essence, Fabledom combines classics like The settlers and Anno – just in a cute fairytale look. So you build lumberjacks, quarries, farms, homes and so on and connect everything with roads. Similar to Manor Lords, you then assign your fabulous creatures to workstations at the push of a button so that they can turn tree trunks into wooden boards or carry surplus goods to the warehouse.

In order to attract new fabulous creatures to your fairytale kingdom, you first have to build enough living space for them. In Fabledom, this is done using a modular system with which you place objects such as clotheslines, outhouses and the like in the garden of a farmhouse. If this is too fiddly for you, simply use the automatic function.

In any case, the objects either increase the happiness of the residents or provide a certain basic supply of food. But as your village grows, of course it needs a proper food supply from vegetable farms, fishermen, pig farms and whatever else your citizens want.

With necessary buildings such as theaters or taverns and well-placed decorations, you can increase the satisfaction of the residents even further. On the other hand, you also have to be careful not to build any unpleasant buildings in the area. Living next to the noise of a chicken coop is not that relaxed. Citizens, the second class of the population, prefer to live in their own residential complexes, completely separate from the rural population.

And nobles, yes, they are only satisfied with the best of the best and reside directly in the fairytale castle, which you unlock late in the game. As a result, over time, urban districts with different focuses emerge naturally. Although you can definitely mix things up wildly, it just doesn't make that much sense. Because the happier your fabulous creatures are, the faster they run and work.

On to true love

A central aspect of Fabledom is dealing with princes and princesses who live in neighboring areas of the world map. You can use messengers to improve your relationship with them and send gifts. Once an embassy is built, this goes one step further and you can complete different tasks. These can be good deeds but also looting that fills your storage rooms to capacity but damages the relationship with the respective prince or princess.

The goal of the simple plot is to marry a prince or princess. Each of the six highnesses has different preferences and gives you different tasks on the dates, which you complete in the course of the ensnarement. In return, you unlock unique buildings and advantages. Warrior Princess Winifred, for example, is all about soldiers and fighting, while the quickest way to win Giovanni's heart is with good old money.
