After a meeting organized by a collective of inhabitants of the island of Thau on November 16, the deputy of the National Assembly of the seventh district is demanding additional police resources from the Minister of the Interior.
As announced in the municipal council this Monday, November 21, the deputy Aurélien Lopez-Liguori (RN), who also sits on the municipal council in the opposition, sent a missive to the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, to request the classification of the Île de Thau in the Republican Reconquest District (QRR) to fight against the rise in drug trafficking which worries the population.
Severe lack of staff
“Yes, “syndicated crime” is now established on the island of Thau. On this territory, there are indeed permanent associations of criminals who have reached such a degree of organization that they hold the monopoly of a criminal sector”, he wrote in his letter. He mentions the lack of police personnel in the police district of Sète, which operates with 100 officials. The national average is 1 officer or agent for 560 inhabitants, he says, “the calculation shows that they should be 125”.
