Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless – Clear top model

When Sennheiser describes the headphones themselves, they claim that the Momentum 5 doesn’t just play music, it immerses you in the music, that the sound quality allows you to hear details your old headphones could never reproduce. In practice, this depends partly on what your old headphones were and which phone you use to listen to the music. High-resolution sound basically does exactly what Sennheiser says, that you get a different richness of detail, that each voice and instrument appears more clearly and individually, so that you notice aspects and details that you may not have heard before even in your favorite songs. In the case of these headphones, the high-resolution sound is in the form of aptX and the level of quality depends on which phone you use and the music of course also depends on which sound source it is, Spotify or some other sound source.

Better sound – in iPhone with cable

In the iPhone, I am wirelessly referred to AAC because that is what the iPhone supports, but if I connect directly with usb-c to an iPhone to listen, I get significantly better quality and the jump to 44.1 Hz gives a completely different clarity and detail in the sound, so tangible that a big smile spreads to my face. I can get similar sound quality in Android, but then also wirelessly. Support for aptX HD provides a similar experience. Depending on which phone I connect to, I get different aptX versions. In Xiaomi 17T Pro and Motorola Razr Fold, it will be aptX HD at best, in another Android aptX Adaptive. I can open the associated app and there switch between stable and reliable connection or higher quality audio but none of the handful of new Android phones I have on hand support the Lossless format. Great range for the sound, but throughout it is well balanced.

When I make calls, I get detailed reproduction and the people I’m talking to hear me clearly even when I’m in noisy environments. During the test period, I have tested the noise reduction both on airplanes and in urban environments outdoors and in quieter surroundings. It is very effective and one of the best we have tested.

Mostly plastic

The headphones themselves are mainly plastic with woven fabric on the top side of the bridge and a more rubber-like surface underneath, against the head, and soft imitation leather in the ear pads. The headphones are very comfortable and rarely remind you at all, mainly because the strap is not clearly felt against the head and the pressure over the ears is not at all noticeable. The underwire can be resized steplessly for the best fit and feels comfortable and compliant even when I move, chew or turn my head suddenly, but cannot be folded. You can angle the ear cups, which is done when the headphones are in the supplied hard case.

On the right earpiece there is the button to turn it on and off, but if you just take off the earpieces, the music can be automatically paused and if you leave them on then they can turn themselves off after between fifteen minutes and an hour, you can set all that yourself in the app. The app is otherwise easy to use and clear.

It allows you to manage multiple connected devices simultaneously in an easy way, adjust the sound with equalizers and add sound zones. The latter means that you can set up a bunch of settings that automatically take effect when you arrive at a specific location. So, for example, you have the right settings for the office and its conditions and a different set when you work at the slightly messier favorite cafe. The start screen in the app can also be customized so that you have the functions you use most often conveniently at hand right away without scrolling.
