Sea of Thieves will get a major update before the release of Season 12 and the PS5 version | Xbox

While Sea of Thieves will debut on PlayStation 5 on April 30, the same day as the release of Season 12, Rare will bring a small update to its multiplayer game this week to introduce some new features, but also bring some new features. numerous fixes, including the return of 6 ships on a single server!

All players who pre-ordered Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5 were able to jump into the game's closed beta from April 12 to 15, allowing Rare to observe the state of the servers before the full launch at the end of the month. Thus, this phase allowed the studio to pinpoint a bug which will not affect the launch of the game next week.

We identified a bug early on that was preventing players from accessing the wide range of regional data centers we run Sea of Thieves on, which quickly exhausted those that were available. This resulted in longer than expected wait times to enter the game, or players arriving at a server with a suboptimal location, resulting in greater network latency.

The team was therefore forced throughout the weekend to manage server allocation manually so that players could play in optimal conditions as much as possible. Fortunately, the identification of the PlayStation 5-specific bug will allow Rare on April 30 to open the servers to all players more confidently, since the studio can take the time to work on fixing the problem.

The next Sea of Thieves update

The March update promised many fixes, but unfortunately some of them were not implemented. Rare has therefore redoubled its efforts to focus on the health of the game and resolve problems that have lasted for too long. Items to purchase will also be added as part of the April 25 update.

  • The hit-reg team has also planned a number of improvements in this update, to further improve the hit-reg before the new weapons arrive in Season 12
  • All six ships on the server will be back. Tests were carried out during the beta on PlayStation 5 and the results were conclusive. The new limit will therefore be 6 ships for 18 players. Rare is already looking to increase the player limit “to unlock more ship combinations on a server in future updates.”

What about Season 12?

Part of Season 12 was already revealed last month, as well as content coming during Seasons 13 and 14. Rare will share a video very soon to reveal all the details of Season 12, but in the meantime, you will find here -below everything that has already been presented:

The announced elements of Season 12

  • The arrival of owls in the paid store
  • The double-barreled flintlock pistol : A new type of weapon that allows you to fire two shots individually before having to reload, or charge them together and release them all at once for a more powerful shot.
  • Throwing knives : They can be used in melee, with a light melee action and a heavy melee action, but they can also be thrown and used at a distance. You can use them to stab players with a quick attack, but that doesn't do much damage, or you can charge them to put them into a more dangerous stabbing move that will slow down the players movement and give an attack that will do a lot damage if you sneak up behind players. Finally, it is possible to flip the knives to grab them and throw them at players from a distance, which looks like a dirty move and also does a lot of damage.
  • “The Scattershot” : The difference with the standard cannonball is that it is a collection of four cannonballs, but they are much smaller. They have a much shorter fallback range and very high dispersion, allowing you to hit a target with multiple projectiles at the same time. They deal very low damage to the ship, like a level 1 hole, allowing players to repair them quickly, but they can also overwhelm the crew quite quickly.
  • “The Bone Caller” : The Bone Caller is an awesome new throwable item that players can wield and throw on the ground to summon skeletons. They fight alongside the player against enemy players and enemy AI.
  • “The Wind Caller” : The Wind Caller is a new horn-shaped shell that players can blow into to summon the power of the winds. Players can also use it to knock players off their ship or onto land, by targeting a player, blowing into the wind caller and knocking them into the air. You can use it as a means of propulsion for you in the water, but also for rowing boats. So you can use it when you are in the water swimming and you will move like a boatman very fast, or you can stand on a rowing boat and blow at the back like a boat at high speed. You can put out fires, and you can do it quickly. So you can walk around, your whole ship is on fire, and put out all the fires while you're walking around. And they can even use it to stop the damage from their fall. For example, if you fall from a great height and use the wind caller underneath you, it will break your fall so you can land safely. There is a limited charge for the duration of the Wind Caller, so you have to use it wisely.
  • Ziplines : so we added zip lines to the outpost to quickly reach your ship, we added some to the skeleton forts to allow you to zip line between two positions in order to escape the skeletons or get closer to them when they first appear, or just to give you a general idea of how you can traverse the islands.
  • Harpoon lines : So you can shoot this harpoon line at another ship or island, then jump on it and balance across it. Depending on the angle at which you pull the harpoon, the slope will be too steep to climb, but if you're at the other end, you can jump onto the harpoon line and run it down to your ship very quickly.
