Netflix has released the first teaser for “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” giving fans a taste of the return of stealth icon Sam Fisher. The reveal was made during Netflix Geeked Week 2024.
Inspired by the Ubisoft brand, the series follows Sam Fisher, a US government agent working for the secret organization Fourth Echelon. In the teaser, he is seen sinking into the water along with his iconic night vision goggles.
Darkness is a good thing
In the first moving scenes from “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” a monologue by Fisher is shown alongside a wooden coffin engraved with “Beloved Father” – a reference to a central character in the series named Douglas Shetland.
Fisher comments: “Don't be afraid. Darkness is a good thing. Once you get used to the shadows, you'll see the bad people for who they really are. And they'll never know you're after them.”
Top-class creative team behind Splinter Cell: Deathwatch
The film is directed by Guillaume Dousse (“Love, Death & Robots”) and Félicien Colmet-Daage (“The Summit of the Gods”). The screenplay and production are by Derek Kolstad, known as the author of “John Wick”.
“Splinter Cell: Deathwatch” is being produced in collaboration with Ubisoft Film & Television, Sun Creature and Fost. Helene Juguet, Hugo Revon and Gérard Guillemot from Ubisoft are among the executive producers.
Particularly noteworthy is the choice of voice actor behind Sam Fisher: actor Liev Schreiber, known from “Ray Donovan” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”, is responsible for the English-language dubbing of the famous agent.
TV adaptation to start soon
“Splinter Cell: Deathwatch” is an adaptation of the successful Ubisoft video game series that began in 2002. It made a name for itself primarily with its stealth mechanics.
While a new main game has been a long time coming, several novels were published in the mid-2000s that accompany Fisher on his black ops missions.
