In an interview with IGN, Saber Interactive's CEO Matthew Karch finally gave us an update on the remake of “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” announced in 2021. According to Karch, the remake is still in the works, but still requires a lot of development time.
After the remake of the classic role-playing game “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic”, which was announced in 2021, became quite quiet for months, we even made some noise in the meantime Rumors about a possible end to the project.
The last annual report of the Embracer Group made it clear that we have nothing to fear in this regard. Here was the remake under the titles listedthat are being actively worked on. Matthew Karch, the CEO of the responsible development studio Saber Interactive, which recently separated from the Embracer Group, now provided final clarity separated.
Like Karch in conversation with colleagues from IGN confirmed that Saber Interactive is still working on “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic”. Since we are dealing with an ambitious project here, the community will have to be patient for a while.
Our expectations should be exceeded
According to Saber Interactive's CEO, the remake is “alive and well.” Karch went on to say that when the developers are working on the new edition of “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic,” it is about exceeding the expectations of the players. “It is clear and obvious that we are working on it,” said Karch.
And further: “The whole thing has been in the press many times. What I can say is that the game is alive and kicking and we are committed to exceeding players' expectations.” Unfortunately, Saber Interactive's CEO left it unclear when we would expect further details or even the official reveal of the remake can.
In the last annual report before the separation from Saber Interactive, Lars Wingefors, the CEO of Embracer Group, suggested that “the remake still has a long way to go”. So for now we shouldn't expect any such announcements.
Disney also wants to realize the project
Saber Interactive received support at the end of 2023 from the gaming division of Disney, the rights holder of “Star Wars”. Disney's gaming boss Sean Shoptaw pointed out in December that those responsible were aware of the high demand for the remake of “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” and definitely wanted to realize the project.
“I can't say much at this point for hopefully obvious reasons, but Knights of the Old Republic is obviously an incredibly popular game. One that we are incredibly proud of and think there is still a lot of demand for. I’ll leave it at that,” said Shoptaw.
The remake of “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” will be released for the PC and, in the world of consoles, exclusively for the PS5.
