Romancing SaGa 2 will have the right to a remake

Square Enix has not finished offering us games Saga : less than two months later Emerald Beyondthe new episode of the series, here the Japanese publisher is taking advantage of Nintendo Direct broadcast tonight to announce a remake of Romancing SaGa 2, published in 1993 in Japan. Passing from pixel art from a top view to shimmering 3D, the title will try to retain everything that made the original a known and recognized game. Here is the synopsis:

We are in the year 1000 of the Empire. Terrifying monsters descend on the land and the various nations fight both against this incursion and their own internal conflicts. The people await with hope the realization of an ancient legend which predicts the coming of seven great heroes who will save their ravaged kingdoms.

Then, one disastrous day, Avalon, the capital of the Varennes Empire, is suddenly and brutally attacked. The attacker is none other than Kzinssie, one of the seven legendary heroes. The people are crushed and Prince Victor, the brave and noble heir to the imperial throne, is killed. The citizens of the empire despair upon realizing that the legends were false, but Victor's father, Emperor Leo, swears revenge on the Seven and their mighty powers.

He uses the legendary “heirloom magic” bestowed by the seer Orieve to pass on his powers to his other son Gerard, trading his own life for a chance for his heir to fight back. This act marks the first chapter in a deadly tale of a war that happened long ago, an era-spanning struggle between the Imperial lineage of Varennes and the Seven Heroes.

In addition to this transition to 3D which we are promised to be as faithful as possible to the original sprites, this remake of Romancing SaGa 2 will also benefit from welcome modernizations in terms of gameplay, including the possibility of choosing your level of difficulty (between easy, normal and hard – the original level) and thus avoid being crushed by the first enemy that comes along. You will be able to take advantage of the rich combat system and its thirty character classes allowing you to compose the most effective team possible. As usual in Sagathe story is intended to be as free as possible, with multiple branches and the possibility of exploring the regions of the game in the order you want – At your peril. It's up to you to write your own adventure!
