The Asus Rog Ally is a portable console that runs Windows 11. Its design, reminiscent of the Steam Deck, is accompanied by plastic materials that look a little cheap at first glance. The finishes are, however, excellent and the console offers good ergonomics, with a weight of 608 g (i.e. 400 g more than a Nintendo Switch) and a button layout close to an Xbox controller.
The 7-inch IPS LCD screen, with Full HD definition of 1920 × 1080 pixels, comes with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The AMD Z1 Extreme chip, the RDNA 3 and 16 graphics processor GB of shared RAM ensures optimized graphics performance. The games run at 60 fps and graphically, the textures and the level of detail are impressive for a portable console. FreeSync technology helps prevent image tearing, and recent compatibility with AMD's FSR 3 greatly improves the framerate on compatible or non-compatible games. Finally, the Asus console remains silent and does not heat up.
Is the Rog Ally worth it for French Days?
This is a very good deal if you want a portable gaming PC. Aside from its excellent performance, the Rog Ally Z1 Extreme isn't the most user-friendly machine out there. Windows 11 is not particularly suited to browsing in a portable console. The Armory Crate SE software overlay fortunately simplifies the whole thing, with a well-organized game library and welcome presets.
Finally, with the brightness and graphics settings at maximum, its autonomy is just under 2 hours, which can go up to 4 hours by making concessions on performance. You can of course plug the console into a power outlet to play it at the same time.
