Resignation of the president of the Polish Tennis Association. Katarzyna Kotula comments and announces the application to the Supreme Audit Office of the Ministry of Sport

Mirosław Skrzypczyński resigned from the position of president of the Polish Tennis Association on Thursday in connection with allegations of sexual violence. One of the people who publicly accuses Skrzypczyński is the MP of the Left, Katarzyna Kotula. She commented on the resignation at a press conference.

The Onet portal revealed that the head of the Polish Tennis Association, Mirosław Skrzypczyński, had used mental and physical violence against his family and the players he trained for years. The tennis players interviewed by the authors of the publication accused Skrzypczyński of harassment.

In an interview published on Monday by Onet, the left-wing MP Katarzyna Kotula revealed that as a teenager she was sexually harassed by Skrzypczyński, who was then her coach at the Energetyk club in Gryfino. “I was a kid, 13, then 14, a girl with blonde curls. And he – now I know for sure – was a sexual predator,” she said. The MP spoke more about the case in Monday’s “Kropka nad i”.

Onet published another article on Tuesday. The journalists talked to Ewa Ciszek, who worked in a hotel near Warsaw where Skrzypczyński stayed for the occasion of the opening of the tennis center and the Maria and Lech Kaczyński memorial. “He was the most disgusting old man I’ve ever dealt with in years.” Without a shadow of embarrassment, he offered me to spend the night in his room – she said. I felt him start to move closer to me and rub his crotch against my legs. He also said something like ‘I’ll take care of you, it will be nice and very interesting’. When he saw me the next day, he ‘joked’ that I could have stayed because I would have been well massaged, recalled Ewa Ciszek.

On Thursday, the Polish Tennis Association announced that Mirosław Skrzypczyński had resigned.

Kotula: the conspiracy of silence has been broken

Left-wing MP Katarzyna Kotula organized a press conference on this matter. – I want to say today with all firmness: it’s not enough – said Kotula. However, she pointed out that in this case “the conspiracy of silence was broken today”.

– To my knowledge, President Mirosław Skrzypczyński remains today, which is absolutely scandalous, a member of the board of the Polish Tennis Association – she announced and announced that she would submit a request to the Minister of Sport, Kamil Bortniczuk, to suspend the entire board of the association on the basis of Article 23(1) of the Act about sports. – People like Mirosław Skrzypczyński should not only work with children, but should not work with people – she added.

– Minister, what are you waiting for? What evidence do you still need? – the MP appealed to Kamil Bortniczuk, pointing out that after the media reports, the sports ministry did not take appropriate action.

Katarzyna Kotula also announced a request to the Supreme Audit Office to check all subsidies granted to the union by the Ministry of Sport.

Kotula about the internal PZT committee: this is a mockery

– This is a mockery – the MP assessed the communiqué of the Polish Tennis Association about the creation of a commission to clarify the matter. “This is a step towards sweeping the matter under the rug,” she added.

– I do not want today Mirosław Skrzypczyński’s colleagues – people who may have known for many years what Mirosław Skrzypczyński is doing – decide, analyze and make decisions on this matter – she assessed. She also indicated the lack of legal authority to operate such a committee. – I hope that this case will be dealt with by an independent prosecutor’s office and that an independent court will decide on this case – she announced.

According to Kotula, Skrzypczyński’s resignation is merely a “cover-up” of the problem. – The president and the vice-president were switched places, the president remained a member of the board – she assessed.

Kotula: This, of course, does not end the matter

Earlier, Kotul commented on Skrzypczyński’s resignation on TVN24. – The pressure makes sense – said the MP of the Left. – My disclosure under the name and surname and such an exit on behalf of all those who have experienced violence (…) it was a good decision – she added.

“That’s not the end of it, of course, I hope,” she said. “This is the beginning – I hope the beginning – of a change in our approach to how we protect children in the first place,” she added. “This case proves that you need to speak out about such matters. It cannot be swept under the rug,” she added.

The MP also announced proposals to introduce changes that would not allow such cases to expire, as often the wronged people dare to talk about their wrongs only after many years, when they are already adults.

– We will propose legislative solutions – she announced. “Not only in sport, but in a wider field,” she explained.

Kotula: I am disgusted by the actions of the Minister of Sport

The MP was also asked about the assessment of the activities of the Minister of Sport Kamil Bortniczuk in this matter. – I am disgusted by the actions of the Minister of Sport – she replied. In her opinion, the head of the sports ministry was competent to introduce a special curator in the tennis association.

“At no time has the sports minister taken the side of the victims today,” she said. – This is not the way, Minister – she responded to the minister’s announcement regarding the extension of the ministry’s authority over sports associations in response to the events in PZT.

– I have great regret and great grievances against you. I express these claims on behalf of players, not only Polish tennis, but other sports disciplines. If there is a man in the position of sports minister today who can do nothing, he should probably resign, she assessed.

The prosecutor’s office is handling the case

A spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin, Alicja Macugowska-Kyszka, announced on Thursday that “screening proceedings related to media reports” had begun in this case. – These are crimes related to, inter alia, sexual freedom and decency – she added. The spokeswoman clarified that the catalog also includes crimes committed against minors.

The proceedings are not limited to the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, but cover the entire territory of Poland.
