Both “Resident Evil 7” and the remakes of “Resident Evil 2” and “Resident Evil 3” received technical upgrades on the PS5. As a possible leak from a retailer suggests, Capcom could be preparing retail releases of the technically revised versions.
In the past, the developers at Capcom polished up various “Resident Evil” titles for the PS5. The improvements offered included revised graphics, a significant reduction in loading times and support for ray tracing or the DualSense controller.
The only catch is that anyone who wanted to put the revised PS5 versions of the titles on their shelves at home has so far come away empty-handed. However, according to current reports, collectors could soon get their money's worth. A Romanian dealer provided us with what may be the decisive clue.
As can be seen from its online range, Capcom is preparing retail versions of three “Resident Evil” adventures for the PS5.
Retail releases in summer?
According to the retailer, in detail we are dealing with “Resident Evil 7” as well as the remakes of “Resident Evil 2” and “Resident Evil 3”. These are scheduled to appear in a disc version for the PS5 in the summer. According to the retailer, this will happen on July 31, 2024. However, this date could be a placeholder.
Those responsible at Capcom have not yet commented on the rumors about possible retail versions. Even if retailers have repeatedly been open to leaks in the past and anticipated announcements by publishers, the information should be viewed with the necessary caution until an official statement is made.
Especially since the relevant entries have now been removed. Whether we are dealing with a simple error or a leak remains to be seen.
Older titles continue to have solid sales figures
In February, Capcom delivered to us updated sales figures about the “Resident Evil” titles in question and confirmed that they continue to sell at a solid level. The remake of “Resident Evil 2”, for example, found more than 13.6 million buyers by the end of December 2023.
The remake of “Resident Evil 3”, released in April 2020, had been sold 8.4 million times over virtual and real store counters by the end of December. The total number of all “Resident Evil” games sold rose to 154 million by the end of 2023.
According to unconfirmed reports, Capcom is currently working on several new Resident Evil projects. On the one hand, we are dealing with “Resident Evil 9”, in which the developers build on the experiences and open-world technologies of “Dragon's Dogma 2”. should build.
The rumor mill also wants to hear about further remakes. But here too we have to point out that Capcom hasn't officially confirmed or announced anything yet.
