At over 70 years old, Steven Spielberg is one of the most famous directors in Hollywood and makes a point of remaining in the spotlight. If we know him mainly for his cult films such as Jaws or Jurassic Park, even today he continues to release, or think about, almost one film per year. However, Spielberg is a multifaceted man who had the time, but above all the opportunity, to step away from his director's hat. On his latest feature film for example, The Fabelmans, he tried his hand at the screenplay. Something he had already experienced more than 10 years ago on A.I (for example). However, apart from these activities, Spielberg is mainly a producer and is responsible for financing talented ideas. A few days ago, for example, Deadline told us that it had hired one of the most famous directors of the 90s to a new project on Netflix.

Steven Spielberg already at work

Steven Spielberg finally gets to work adapting the book The Thursday Murder Club with his production company Amblin Entertainment. After acquiring the rights in 2020, we were right to wonder where this production was, but here it is, it is finally starting. Always according to Deadline, Chris Columbus will be in production (Harry Potter 1 and 2, Mrs Doubtfire or Mom I Missed the Plane). In this film, we find a group of retired friends who are busy solving murders for fun. Except that they will finally be embarked on a real investigation: that of the murder of a famous real estate developer. In the casting, we should find Helen Mirren in the role of Elizabeth, an ex-spy, Ben Kingsley will be Ibrahim, a former psychiatrist, and Pierce Brosnan plays Ron, a former trade unionist. Only Joyce's role is still under negotiation.

After several filming postponements, the film The Thursday Murder finally seems to be getting on track, according to the best-selling author, who is already enthusiastic. “I’m so proud of this book, so it’s a dream to see The Thursday Murder Club in such incredible hands,” he said. On his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, the man mentioned a start of filming in mid-June, until the end of September. Moreover, if success is achieved for Netflix, we can already imagine that several sequels could be produced, because this book is in fact only the beginning of a successful literary series, which will is continued with The Next Thursday (2021) or The Mystery of the Lost Ball (2022). In any case, this film seems by Glass Onion already has everything to please.
