Presented Desktop environment release Regolith Desktop 3.1developed by the developers of the same name Linux distribution. Regolith is based on GNOME session management technologies, window manager i3composite servers Picom and Sway panels i3barnotification system roficationstatus bar i3status-rs and program launch interface ilia. Project developments spread licensed under GPLv3. For loading prepared packages for Ubuntu and Debian.
The project is positioned as a modern desktop environment, developed to perform common actions faster by optimizing workflows and eliminating unnecessary clutter. The goal is to provide a functional yet minimalistic interface that can be customized and expanded based on the user's preferences. Regolith may be of interest to beginners who are accustomed to traditional window systems but want to try frame-based (tiled) window layout techniques.
IN new issue:
- A session using Wayland has been adapted for use in Debian Testing. Wayland support is only provided for Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian Testing and Debian 12. For Ubuntu 20.04 and Debian 11 only X11 based session is supported.
- Added support for Ubuntu 23.10 release.
- The interface for switching between virtual desktops i3-next-workspace has been ported to work with the Sway composite server.
- The regolith-control-center configurator has been transferred to the code base from GNOME 45.
- The session based on the Sway composite server has been transferred from the alpha version to the beta testing stage.
