Taxi 5 is currently available for free on the French SVOD service TF1+. To benefit from it, users simply need to create an account on the platform. The latest title in the French franchise, the film under the direction of Franck Gastambide promised upon its release in 2018 to perpetuate the frenetic and comic spirit which had made the previous parts so charming. Despite its changes, Taxi 5 does not seem to have pleased the public, but can still occupy you for an evening.

Taxi 5 changes, the story of a film that did not convince

Twenty years after the resounding success of the Taxi saga, which marked an entire generation with its frantic races in the streets of Marseille, the franchise tried to relaunch itself with a new opus. While the license was initiated by Luc Besson and supported by the dynamic performances of Samy Naceri and Frédéric Diefenthal, Taxi 5 was presented as the revival of the series. Under the direction of Franck Gastambide, this new team promised to perpetuate the frenetic and comical spirit which had made the previous parts so charming. Moreover, he plays the main role himself, alongside Malik Bentalha, Anouar Toubali, and others. The story follows Sylvain Marot, a Parisian police officer who finds himself transferred to Marseille where he must team up with Émilien Coutant-Kerbalec, played by Malik Bentalha. Together, they must face a gang of motorized bank robbers, threatening the tranquility of the city.

Critical reception and Box office, the film is a flop!

The press ratings (0/100 from 5 reviews only) as well as the criticism (27/100 from more than 100 reviews) of Rotten Tomatoes reflected the general disappointment surrounding Taxi 5. Although it had some success at the box office in 2018, this latest installment did not meet the expectations of fans of the franchise. Moreover, it is the film in the saga with the biggest budget, 20.3 million euros compared to 17 million for the 4th. However, he is still the one who obtained the lowest score at the box office. In addition, the film had to deal with drama, particularly with Samy Naceri who did not appreciate being absent from this production. With mixed reviews and a mixed reception, Taxi 5 failed to live up to its cinematic legacy, leaving fans wanting more and calling into question the future of the saga.
