RDR2: Finding and Selling Free Gold Bars – Map Locations

Gold bars in Red Dead Redemption, what are they for and where to sell them?

The first thing to note is that if you ever want to start hunting for gold bars in Red Dead Redemption 2, you will have to wait until the start of Chapter 2 (or even longer for some). From there, you will be able to find 24 of them on the map and resell them, each for $500.

To resell them, you will have to go to fences. To help you find them easily, we have indicated them all on the map below. So, you can easily get to the one closest to your location.

Treasure hunts and ingots

Milestones of Opulence (6 bars)

1. In a stele, approach and you will find a trapdoor
2. In a very small church, go up to the roof and search the bell tower
3. In a small mine entrance on a hill
4. In the tree trunk on the highest point in the middle of the trenches
5. In a cairn at the top of the area

The Cave of Strange Statues (3 ingots)

1. Examine the painted wall to make a sketch
2. Enter the rock recess facing the moss-filled house

Once you re-enter the room and examine the central statue, activate the statue buttons following the order in the image below. For information, the view was taken with a character's back to the entrance to the room. Once it's done, a trap door opens revealing the ingots.

Limpany Sheriff's Office (1 ingot)

Go to the town of Limpany indicated below and more specifically to the sheriff's office which burned down. Enter and go behind the desk to rummage through the drawers. There you will find a crate which contains a gold bar inside.

The Cotorra Springs Train Crash (2 bars)

Once you arrive at the accident site shown on the map below, go up the mountain to the east. This will allow you to have access to a wagon overturned on the side of the latter. Jump inside to find two ingots.

Rhodes' Hideout (1 ingot)

The first step will be to talk to the prisoner in the first location. The latter will reveal to you that a treasure is hidden near a water tower along the railway line. Go to the indicated location and go straight ahead, with your back to the city to fall on a pile of stones at the foot of a post. This is where the ingot is located.

The Treasure of Jack Hall's Gang (2 bars)

1. Talk to the NPC and buy his treasure map
2. Climb to the height, then walk along the cliff to find a cache
3. Search the stone cairns
4. Go to the island in the middle of the lake and lift a stone

High Stakes Treasure (3 bars)

1. Search this area for an NPC talking about a treasure map, lasso him and take it
2. Go behind the waterfall to find the cache
3. Take the trunk to access the rock and in the middle, stop to find the cache
4. Walk along the cliff to find the cache

The Poison Trail (4 ingots)

1. Search the cabin next to the lake and you will find a cache under a bed
2. Search the charred stump
3. Search the stone bed on the ground
4. Pass behind the waterfall, go up the tunnel until you come across a half-submerged cul-de-sac where the cache is located

The map of Annesburg (1 ingot)

Go to the first location and search the cabin and more specifically the chimney to find the treasure map you are looking for. Then go to the indicated height and look for the tree marked with an. The hiding place is in the stones behind the latter.

Braithwaite Manor (1 ingot)

Arriving at the mansion, go inside and you can collect a necklace from the charred body at the entrance. Then go into the room to your left and you will find a small chest hidden under the floor. Take it and you will get your ingot.

The elemental track (1 ingot)

1. Pull the rope of the man hanging by his feet and search him
2. Search the chimney of the ruined house
3. Go up the mountain behind Benedict Point to reach the wooden path for the water and find the cache there
4. Search the grave with a simple cross at the entrance to the cemetery

Once that's done, you should find the last gold bar there, which will bring your total to 24! As we told you at the start of the article, if the first ingot hunts are unlocked from the start of the second chapter, this is not the case for all.

They are in order in this article, so if you can't find the trigger for one of the hunts, we advise you to come back later. For example, that of the Elemental Track is only unlocked during the epilogue of the game!
