While it is the PS5 version of “Everspace 2” on Metacritic has an average rating of 80 points, the shooter is much better received by the community. This is proven by a look at the PlayStation Store.

An open game world and other innovations

Apart from the fast-paced space action, “Everspace 2” only has a limited connection to its predecessor. The first “Everspace” was intended to be a classic Rougelite experience, but the successor offers you more than just an open game world. In addition, a classic single-player campaign awaits.

Here you take on the role of the clone pilot Adam. He searches for his place in the universe and faces the numerous dangers that lie in wait for him in the war-torn star systems of the demilitarized zone of Cluster 34.

“The existence of the DMZ is at stake and the events of his past drag Adam into the middle of a conflict between various factions. Escape from colonial captivity, thwart the intrigues of warlords, escape the obsessed followers of a cult and fend off warmongering aliens,” the story continues.

Another difference from the first part is that in “Everspace 2” all worlds and content were created by hand. As you progress through the campaign, you will regularly unlock upgrades and new abilities that are of vital importance in space combat.
