Sony is now also offering used consoles that have been refurbished for resale via the PlayStation Direct Store. The price of the so-called refurbished consoles has not been entirely without criticism.
With the official announcement the PS5Pro Sony sparked heated discussions on social media and international gaming forums.
Unsurprisingly, it was the hefty price of 799.99 euros in Germany that attracted numerous critics. For players who do not want to buy the PS5 Pro because of the high price, Sony is offering in the PlayStation Direct Store an alternative. To be precise, it is about the possibility of purchasing the old model of the PS5 at reduced prices.
With the recently launched service, the Japanese electronics giant is bringing so-called refurbished consoles to the public. A service that Nintendo and Microsoft have been offering for some time.
Refurbished and certified consoles
In the official product description on the PlayStation Direct Store, Sony points out that buyers of the refurbished consoles will receive a PS5 with a disc drive that is virtually as good as new. “You will receive a product that functions like new, with genuine PlayStation replacement parts (as needed), that has been carefully cleaned, inspected and tested,” says Sony.
“All refurbished and certified products come with the necessary accessories, cables and manuals and are packaged in their own refurbished and certified product packaging,” the product description of the refreshed PS5 consoles continues.
Even if the used consoles work like new after the overhaul, Sony says there may be “minor visual defects.” The company also points out that every refurbished console comes with a 12-month manufacturer's warranty.
