PS5 Pro: In Europe & the USA

Just like with the PS5 Slim, Sony is relying on an optional drive for the PS5 Pro. An announcement that led to a real rush on the accessory in both the US and Europe.

In a nine-minute long technical presentation Sony presented us with the PS5Pro This week it was finally officially announced. In the official announcement of the system, the Japanese electronics giant confirmed that the PS5 Pro, just like the PS5 Slim, will be delivered without an optical drive.

This is offered as an option and must be purchased separately by players. The price is just under 120 euros. As a look at the offers from various leading retailers shows, yesterday's announcement of the PS5 Pro caused a real rush for the optional drive in both the USA and Europe.

This in turn resulted in the drive being sold out at several major retailers.

Where else is the drive available?

The retailers where the drive is currently sold out include Otto and Amazon. Also in PlayStation Direct Store you will see a message that the optional drive is currently not available. The situation is different for the two electric chains Saturn and Media Markt out of.

The drive in question can still be purchased here at the time of this report (5:50 p.m.). Since the websites of both retailers state that “the article is often viewed,” interested parties should not take too long to make their purchase decision.



If you already own the drive for one of the older PS5 models and are thinking about upgrading to the PS5 Pro, you don't need to purchase a new drive.

As Sony emphasized in the official announcement of the new console, the drive is part of the existing PS5 accessories that come with the PS5 Pro is compatible.

When will the PS5 Pro be released?

In addition to various technical details Sony also revealed the release date of the PS5 Pro yesterday. As the company announced, the new console will be released on November 7, 2024. While US gamers will be asked to pay $699.99, Sony is offering the PS5 Pro in Europe for 799.99 euros.



The costs for the optional drive or the console stand would be added if required. If you don't want to rely on luck despite the high price and want to pre-order the PS5 Pro instead, you can do so from 26 September 2024 do.

But what chances do analysts expect from the PS5 Pro and its hefty price? According to market researchers at Ampere Analysis, the high acquisition costs could lead to Sony's mid-gen upgrade weaker starts than the PS4 Pro at the time.
