Fallout 4 leaves PS Plus members confused

Like us reported last nightPlayStation Plus membership holders may find themselves in front of closed doors. “Fallout 4” is located in the subscription service's Extra Library, but encourages users of this version to purchase the game if they want to benefit from the upgrade.

Bethesda later issued a statement assuring that this restriction was not intended.

“We have experienced some confusion regarding the free Fallout 4 next-gen update for PlayStation Plus Extra members. The Fallout 4 next-gen update will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra members via the PlayStation Game Catalog. We ask for your patience as the teams work on this,” said support on Twitter/X.

Bethesda was unable to provide any helpful statements about the versions of “Fallout 4”, for example about the PlayStation Plus Collection, which has now been discontinued were obtained. The latter collection was part of an initiative aimed at helping PlayStation gamers get through the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The next-gen update for Fallout 4 will be available to PS Plus Extra members. “We have no information about the PS5 catalog or PS Plus Essentials,” said the company behind “Fallout 4.” Since it is actually a free update “for all players,” many owners were not impressed with Bethesda’s statement. However, Sony seems to be a relevant contact in this case.

Not everything runs smoothly on the Xbox consoles either

Similar to many other current generation games, the “Fallout 4” update offers the option to choose between a performance mode and a quality mode. This allows players to either prefer a smoother frame rate or higher visual details.

However, after installing the update, many Xbox players reported that the Bethesda title ran at 60 frames per second in quality mode, which is the same as performance mode.

Thomas Morgan from Digital Foundry confirmed a little later on Twitter/X that quality mode on the Xbox Series X is currently inactive. Nothing changes in the resolution either. The idea is to limit the frame rate in quality mode to 40 FPS, which should benefit the graphics.

In addition to the features described, the update has even more to offer, as our overview summarizes.
