Pokémon GO: New avatar designs receive heavy criticism

It's actually commendable that Niantic is still working on the mobile title Pokémon GO even eight years after its release. However, the latest update is not necessarily well received. With this, the developers reworked the avatars and that sometimes leads to bizarre experiences.

The AR title Pokémon GO is now almost eight years old. So it's no wonder that the development studio Niantic felt it necessary to give the game a makeover. The avatars in particular were the focus of a new update. However, the changes are not well received by the community.

The focus of the criticism is the new faces and the generally changed look. Where charming cartoon characters once stood, strange faces now appear that could come straight from the uncanny valley. In addition, purchased clothes now fit the avatars significantly worse than before the update.

This information is particularly nasty because of the statements from users who were already part of the beta test. According to them, the participants had already passed on their criticism and concerns to Niantic, but the feedback was ignored.

The community manager Kestrel Riot is currently collecting opinions on X (or Twitter) and promises to pass them on to the development team. However, he also encourages communication to be objective. Contributions that are rude or insulting will not be considered.

In addition to the new avatars, Niantic is planning further revisions for Pokémon GO. New in-game environments have already been implemented, and an update for the AR functions is also coming.
