Sony has announced that it will no longer sell game discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028. The announcement with a few measly lines on the PlayStation Blog sparked a wave of outrage. Sony’s reaction to this? Complete radio silence. Now it turns out that this plan has completely failed.

After several days of radio silence, the official PlayStation account has now tweeted again. But instead of addressing the players’ voices, it’s about a wireless fight stick for the PlayStation.
PlayStation players have neither forgiven nor forgotten
The comments show that PlayStation gamers have other priorities right now than a new PS5 accessory. The comments are still full of anger over the end of physical games. Numerous players also show off their libraries that have accumulated over time.
According to the current status, there is no way to transfer these games to a digital library. So on a PS6 without a disc drive, all of these games would be useless.

Players are looking forward to GTA 6 and they are mad at Sony.
However, Rockstar hasn’t exactly covered itself in glory when it comes to game discs. Anyone who buys a physical version of GTA 6 in the store actually doesn’t receive a disc with the game at all, just an empty box with a download code. It is becoming less and less attractive to buy games in stores.
