He reports this during a conversation during GI Live: London. “I hope and believe that the PlayStation 5 will be the biggest, best and most beloved PlayStation console to date,” said Ryan. “I would also like to see a world where tens, maybe even hundreds of millions of people can enjoy PlayStation.”
With this, Ryan seems to give up on the current model, in which PlayStation games can mainly only be played on PlayStation consoles. “A major PlayStation hit can only be played by ten or twenty million people with the current console model.”
Ryan makes the comparison with other forms of media, which cannot be played exclusively on one device. “Music and movies can be consumed by an almost unlimited audience. And the art from our studios is part of the best entertainment being made worldwide. To make that great art and entertainment exclusive to 20 or 30 million people frustrates me. would love to see a world where hundreds of millions of people can enjoy these games.”
Ryan’s comment is striking, because Sony mainly releases its games only on PlayStation consoles. However, some PlayStation games have since appeared on PC, including Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn. However, this does not apply to most exclusive PlayStation games, unlike Xbox games that also appear on PC by default.
