Player unlocks door in Super Mario 64 that has been sealed for almost three decades

Even after 28 years, gamers aren't done with Super Mario 64. In the Nintendo classic there is a locked door that fans were desperate to open. Now it has been cracked using a creative trick.

Super Mario 64 was released on the Nintendo 64 28 years ago. The game is still very popular today, especially in the speedrun community. One player now succeeds, one of the maybe biggest remaining secrets to ventilate: How do you open the locked door in the Bibberberg Bob snow world?

It's no big secret what lies behind the door. It leads into the house where the big slide that Mario ends up on sliding race with a penguinHowever, the door is a one-way street. Once the plumber has left the house, there is no way back. A nice detail: there is no doorknob, so you know straight away that you can't go any further.

YouTuber pannenkoek2021 now explains that the door can theoretically still lead inside. However, Nintendo has one invisible wall placed directly in front of the door, so Mario can't touch them. Another Mario expert by the name of Alexpalix1 has now managed to open the door without any hacks. All he had to do was upset Mama Penguin right outside the door by stealing her baby. The angry mother goes on the attack and pushes Mario through the invisible wall straight to the door.

Perfect door trick in Super Mario 64

It almost looks obvious in the video, but it takes absolutely perfect control of Mario to actually open the door. According to pannenkoek2021, Alexpalix1 only came up with the idea for the trick after watching his previous video invisible walls in Super Mario 64 had studied, which is almost four hours long (source: pannenkoek2021).

For speedrunners, the new door trick unfortunately not of any use as it is still slower than current technology. Nevertheless, another Super Mario 64 mystery has finally been revealed.
