The Announcing “Hogwarts Legacy 2” After its popular predecessor, it caused equal amounts of enthusiasm and fear. While many players wait for new excursions into the magical world, a discussion is ongoing about possible live service elements.
An online petition explicitly directed against this strategy was started last March. But how many players has it been able to attract so far?
Care about the magic of Hogwarts Legacy
“Hogwart’s Legacy” was 2023 outstanding success and was appreciated by many players for the entertaining single-player experience. And this is exactly where fans and especially the initiator of the petition see the biggest advantage
The success of the game is based on “the fact that it is a single-player experience and should simply be an entertaining game that people enjoy and give them the joy of being able to experience the magical world for themselves.”
Fans fear that live service elements, such as microtransactions or forced multiplayer, could impact this gaming experience. Live service games are often associated with “greedy decisions” and the fear is that “Hogwarts Legacy 2” could also lose its unique gaming experience.
The petition is now approaching a major milestone: almost 10,000 votes have been collected so far, with a new boost, especially in the last few days. If you want to have your voice heard, will find it here.
Warner Bros. and the live service plans
The debate was fueled by statements from JB Perrette, CEO of games and streaming at Warner Bros. Discovery, reinforced. At a conference, Perrette asked: “How do we develop a game around, say, Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, delivered as a live service where people can come here today and live, work, build and play in that world permanently?”
This statement caused unrest among many fans who were originally excited about the prospect of a successor and were hoping for a comparable concept.
The live service focus was already an issue elsewhere:
A warning and wishes for Hogwarts Legacy 2
The petition ultimately warns that a live service approach “Hogwarts Legacy 2” could make it another failed experiment, similar to other titles that relied on this business model. “People don’t want a live service full of microtransactions and forced drudgery,” it says.
The petition also contains concrete suggestions for the continuation. Among other things, fans would like to see the introduction of Quidditch as a single-player experience, an expansion of moral choices and possibly the integration of Warner Bros' patented Nemesis system.
Further reports about “Hogwarts Legacy” on PLAY3.DE:
Whether the petition will have an impact on the development strategy remains to be seen and is doubtful based on participation so far. However, it is another attempt to get heard by a publisher.
What do you think of a possible live service approach that could become part of “Hogwarts Legacy 2”?
