According to a new report, the new edition of Perfect Dark is not doing well at all and there are still significant problems with development. This is how the well-known and well-informed insider Jeff Grubb came from Giant Bombcast on the subject, according to which the remake for PC and Xbox Series X/S is progressing anything as planned.

Grubb has been hearing “for years” that “Perfect Dark is in a bad state”. He then explicitly emphasizes again that it is actually a “very bad situation”. And further: “It doesn't sound like it's happening in any way [seit der Ankündigung] come together and not since Crystal Dynamics came on board to help with this.”

Internally, we are currently considering using a perspective other than first-person for Perfect Dark – even though the series is known as a first-person franchise. If such fundamental topics are still being discussed, a publication still seems years away – as was the case last summer. Maybe in the end it's better to hope that the remake of Perfect Dark will be released at all, because it doesn't seem to be certain given the development history so far.

After many rumors, the new edition of Perfect Dark was announced in advance at the Game Awards 2020. Developer The Initiative said at the time that they wanted to deliver “a secret agent thriller set in the near future” that would show “one of the most popular IPs in gaming history” in a new look. After everything didn't go smoothly, the Crystal Dynamics team came in to help with development. Afterwards, the project became quiet again, before reports emerged in 2023 that it was making little progress because new ideas around the title were constantly emerging and development goals were being changed – that doesn't seem to have necessarily changed in the last few months.
