Pax Dei – Understanding the interface

Pax Dei's interface can be considered quite minimalist, and is probably not in its final stages yet. A quick overview of the arrival of this alpha 2.

The first thing you need to know is that the game only works in QWERTY and the keys are not not (still) reconfigurable. There will definitely be a ticket open from the first hours in the “Feedbacks” section of the official Discord, and I invite you all to go and support it! We will send you the link in the forum.

So the first thing to do is to install the US keyboard in Windows. By default, to switch between languages on the fly, the shortcut is ALT+SHIFT. If we can still get by with the W to move forward, it is much more complicated with the keys 1 to 8 which allow you to change weapons or place potions or food. Switching to QWERTY is therefore essential.

Via the TAB key (by default), you will have access to the main menus:

  • F4: for settings
  • N: for notifications. Oddly enough, when someone groundthis is where we have to go and accept.
  • P: for the group window
  • INVENTORY: you get it!
  • EQUIPMENT: interface to equip and unequip your equipment. You will also find your defense, life and stamina statistics there.
  • CRAFT : allows crafter the very first elements when you come into play, but there is almost nothing.
  • SKILLS: your expertise on equipment and professions
  • CLAN: clan interface with its structure, members and the last time they connected.
  • MAP : the game map. It is also accessible by pressing the comma (M on a QWERTY keyboard).

Another thing that you must have noticed is that there is no mini-map or compass in the game. This is not an oversight, it is assumed by the developers to improve immersion. You will therefore go to this map very often! Not only does it tell you your position, but it also shows where you are looking: it's your only way to orient yourself. On this map, you will also be able to see the “Shrines”, which are points of pop and on the ground floor, the dungeons and other ruins which shelter mobs that you can farmer. On the other hand, nothing on resources! It's up to you to know where they are and spot them in the distance. Besides, you have to be very close for the menu to appear and you to be able to harvest it. They always return to approximately the same place with different repop times for each resource. Finally, you can place personal markers on the map, for example to mark resources, and a Waypointa sort of temporary direction of which a little breeze of light will indicate to you the overall direction in play.

The shortcut bar at the bottom right is quite classic… except that you have to switch to QWERTY for it to work. The eight slots are free, and you can place weapons, equipment, potions, food, or even resources there if the traditional inventory is full. Above, however, you have two other types of shortcuts:

  • CTRL + Left click: weapon spell (it must be present on your equipped weapon)
  • CTRL + Right click: shield spell (it must be present on your equipped shield)
  • 5 SPELLS: among those found on your equipped equipment. This can be a mix of healing, tanking or dps. You are the one who defines your build (see our article “Understanding the equipment“)

At the bottom, in the center, you have your life points and your stamina points, but also four health slots. buff : one coming from a potion, the others coming from food. They can be active at the same time, but if you try to take a 4th food, you will not be able to consume it because all your buffs will already be active.

That's it for the overview of the interface of Pax Dei at the time of this Alpha 2. Do not hesitate to read our other articles:
