Pax Dei – Understanding crafting

Crafting is one of the deepest and most complex gameplay loops in Pax Dei. If you can hope to build all the crafts as much as possible (nothing is stopping you!), you will probably need several months as the craft requires a lot of resources and takes a long time to put together.

Crafts and its trades are an integral part of Pax Deiand could well be THE pillar of the economy at stake.

The crafting of certain items is based on skills, while others are based on a process and a sequence of crafts which can be long. Skills and workshops can affect and change all related variables such as how long the craftthe success rate and the results obtained.

Obviously, to make basic necessities, anyone can probably make them at home, but to make anything advanced or create facilities to refine things properly, you'll probably have to cooperate with other people . Making everything you need and everything that can support your business simply takes too much space to build on a single private plot of land.

You can choose to specialize in one craft profession or several, but the time spent offering your services and making what needs to be done will be significant. Not to mention the enormous amount of resources required.

In the first few minutes, you will be able to crafter your first picks, axes and weapons directly from the game menu (TAB key by default, tab crafting). But subsequently, you will need specialized workshops of all kinds, and there are dozens of them! What you will notice very quickly is that the number of is quite limited to begin with. The principle will always be the same: when you pick up a new ingredient or craft a new component, you will unlock the recipes that use them. The number of recipes available will therefore increase over time. The number of professions available is also already very developed. Note that there are two other farming professions, not mentioned here: lumberjack and miner.

You will potentially be able to mount them all, but it will be extremely long. For now, the level maximum is 41. Some unique crafts take several hours IRL, and most of the time, it is necessary to go through the production of intermediate components. Some also work in different professions. You therefore have to plan your crafts, count in IRL hours, … and very often plan for an insane amount of different resources (and the storage that goes with them). Also note that the best resources are in the area pvp. Nothing is exclusive to this area, but the resources there are more numerous and often of better quality.

But wait, that's not all! To top it off, a craft… can fail. As you can see below, crafting takes place in the form of a mini-game (which you do not control). Success or failure is validated in the middle. The blue bar starts from the left, the red bar starts from the right. The first of the two that arrives at the center marks the failure or success of the craft. If you fail, you will recover some of the resources… but not all.

On these screens, you can also notice a small cloverleaf at the bottom. The more “full” its petals are, the more likely you are to succeed. But as you see, even in “Easywe can still miss it!

Here's a first overview of how the craft works. For a step-by-step approach, I refer you to our series of articles “Your first minutes! What to collect and craft first?” in three parts. They will guide you step by step towards obtaining the twenty workbenches necessary to acquire the basic level of equipment, potions and other foods.

That's the overview of the Pax Dei interface at the time of this Alpha 2. Don't hesitate to read our other articles either:
