Oura Ring now offers Apple Watch integration with a new app, extensions and more.

Apple Watch collects a number of biometric data points on its own, but you can also combine Apple Watch data with data from other wearables and accessories. The Oura ring is one of the most popular options on the market, and a new update this week brings deep integration with Apple Watch.

This story is backed by Mosyle, Apple’s only unified platform. Mosyle is the only solution that fully integrates five different applications on one Apple-only platform, enabling businesses and schools to easily and automatically deploy, manage, and secure all of their Apple devices. More than 35,000 organizations use Mosyle solutions every day to automate the deployment, management, and security of millions of Apple devices. For those unfamiliar, the Oura Ring is a popular wearable that instead opposes the popular ring smartwatch form factor. The Oura ring is designed to be worn on your index finger and collect several different metrics including your sleep, blood oxygen levels, active calorie burning, heart rate, workouts and more.

Oura has always offered an iPhone app with Apple Health integration, but this week it has significantly expanded its integration with Apple platforms, specifically the Apple Watch.

The main change here is the all-new Oura Ring companion app for the Apple Watch. This app can show you your readiness, activity, sleep metrics, heart rate, body temperature, ring battery level and more. Oura describes it as a “mirror of the Oura iPhone app”. This means that when your Oura Ring syncs with your phone, the Apple Watch app will be updated at the same time.

Here is the full list of data available in the Oura Ring app for Apple Watch:

readiness

Sleep

Activity

Perhaps most notably, the Oura Ring app for Apple Watch also includes a suite of extensions that you can add to your Apple Watch watch face. These extensions can display Oura Ring information on your Apple Watch at a glance, including:

Metrics Activity goal progress Ring battery level Heart rate, movement, sleep, and body temperature graphs

Along with Apple Watch extensions, you can also add Oura Ring extensions to your iPhone lock screen for the first time.

The new version of the Oura Ring app is now available in the App Store. This includes a new companion app for the Apple Watch, as well as a new iPhone app with lock screen widget support.

Review

I have used Oura Ring in combination with an Apple Watch for the past year, though not always consistently. One of the reasons for my inconsistency is that it wasn’t easy to view Oura’s ring data at a glance, and Oura’s announcement this week addresses that.

The Oura Ring offers some features that I would love to see Apple implement on the Apple Watch, specifically Readiness Score and Sleep Score. Now that Oura Ring supports the Apple Watch app with extensions, it’s easier to view this data along with other Apple Watch metrics.

I’m very excited to check it out and see how the Apple Watch and Oura Ring can be used together with each other. If you want to try Oura Ring, you can get $50 off using my referral link.
