Mako frequency measurement

Thanks to the guides present inside Cosmo Canyon, go to the Cosmo Observatory. Enter and talk to Bugenhagen. He is worried about the various wells of life in the Cosmo Valley and was preparing to leave himself to examine them. Accepting your help, he gives you a mako detector as well as a report on life well n°1.

Please note, these are not the traditional wells of life present in each region, and which you can examine yourself. Here, these are other previously inaccessible wells. We will therefore have to rely on the drawing of each report given by Bugenhagen to find them in nature.

Well observation site no. 1

The first life well is located east of transmission tower #3. Approaching the door, Bugenhagen opens it for you and Cloud takes out the mako detector. The result is not really satisfactory, and the wise old man then gives you two new sites to inspect.

Well observation site no. 2

The second well of life is located very close to the first step of Cosmo's protorelic quest. Climb the ruins to the south and you will come to a new portal. This time, monsters are present and attacking the portal. If it is destroyed, the monsters will break the crystal of the well of life.

Four Melankikis await you. Launch quick combos with Cloud and favor wind to kill them quickly. After the fight and an inspection of the well, head to well #3.

Well observation site no. 3

The third well of life is northwest of the first stage of Cosmo's protorelic quest. Arriving at the portal, this time it is Sahuagin from the desert who threaten the well. Vulnerable to ice, an Extra-Ice or Frozen Chains will quickly clean up. Now that wells No. 2 and No. 3 have been examined, let's head to the fourth.

Well observation site no. 4

This fourth shaft is located southwest of transmission tower #3. There, there is actually a Griffon as well as two Desert Sahuagins who threaten the barricade. Try to eliminate the Sahuagins first. The Griffon weakens with each wind-based attack so keep an ATB bar for skills with shock potential to take advantage of it.

Examining the well after the fight, Bugenhagen notices that the value indicated by the detector is unprecedented, proof for him that the mako current has evolved over time. One last well must be observed and you collect the plan to find it.

Well observation site no. 5

The very last well is located south of the mog shop. Starting from chocobo ramp n°15, also south of the shop, go up the path until you reach the portal. Although there are no enemies ahead this time, after a few steps inside, three Demonichymaeras emanate from the well.

Pay close attention to the toxic mist they release as well as the Viscous Web trapping one of your fighters on the ground. Otherwise, ice is once again your best weapon. Once the three critters are killed, Bugenhagen thanks you for the data collected. Better yet, he is ready to answer your questions about the planet and agree with you about its future.

The wise old man offers you a Codex Arcana of Divination IV for Cait Sith, before being alerted by a message from the sentry. Gi wraiths have been spotted in the valley, which will be the subject of another side quest. The current quest ends and you also leave with 1600 Exp, 10 Team Exp, affinity increase with Red XIII.

The next side quest is therefore called “Wandering Specters”. Find the complete list of these quests in our dedicated article.
