Even the PlayStation 4 is more popular.
After a hacker attack on Rockstar Games, the ShinyHunters group has now published a lot of information about GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption. There is no new material for GTA 6. However, when you look at the numbers, it becomes clear why Rockstar is releasing the hotly anticipated game on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S first.
This is how much money Rockstar makes with GTA Online
The website Kotaku looked at the published Rockstar data. Among other things, they show how many players play GTA Online every week, which platform they do so on and how much money they spend. PlayStation consoles are clearly ahead (source: Kotaku).
platform | Weekly users | Weekly earnings |
PS5 PS4 Xbox Series X Xbox One PC | 3,474,021 1,889,729 1,129,023 1,026,695 894,621 | $4,486,346 $973,308 $1,867,947 $918,373 $264,273 |
The PC is particularly far behind in the list. Even the last-gen consoles, which are almost 13 years old, still have more players. What’s more – and much more important for Rockstar: PC gamers also spend a lot less money.
GTA 6 will be released on PC much later
The leaked data makes it clear why Rockstar is not releasing GTA 6 on the PC on November 19th. The studio hasn’t officially announced a PC version yet, although it’s almost certain that it’s coming. Even $264,273 per week is not a small amount. In addition, there will be many players who have already bought GTA 6 on the console and then buy it again on the PC.
Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick claims that the PC market is becoming increasingly important for the publisher, but there is still not enough for a PC version in November. The PC version of GTA 5 was exclusive to PlayStation and Xbox for more than a year. It’s very possible that fans will have to wait just as long again in the case of GTA 6.
