No Rest for the Wicked: Will be the studio's magnum opus, so no Ori 3

No Rest for the Wicked has been in early access for a little over a week. During this period, the developers have already released tons of hotfixes, now it's time to take stock. This puts a big damper on all fans of Ori and the Blind Forest.

Game releases in early access are such a thing. The titles often start with huge hype, but due to technical or content deficiencies, the disillusionment is often just as great. No Rest for the Wicked from Moon Studios didn't exactly get off to a clean start either. Performance problems and questionable game elements spoiled the fun for many fans, so the developers went straight back to the keyboard.

The sixth hotfix has now been published and the developers are planning much more. But other titles are suffering from this, as statements from company CEO Thomas Mahler now show.

According to him, the studio will work on No Rest for the Wicked for another five to ten years. Of course, that doesn't mean that the title will only go into version 1.0 during this period, rather Moon Studios will continue to work on the game even after it is fully released.

For Mahler, No Rest for the Wicked will be the magnum opus of his game company. He explains: “No Rest for the Wicked is like our Lord of the Rings. To take this analogy even further, what we're currently doing is like a test screening of the first parts. 1.0 will be our 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and you know what comes after that.”

Even if No Rest for the Wicked is currently suffering from some problems, as our first test shows, there is hope for improvement. However, good news for some is of course bad news for others. Because Mahler gave an Ori 3 a pretty direct rejection. In response to a fan's question, he replied: “We hope that you now understand why we won't be making an Ori 3 in the near future.”

So not good news for fans of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. But at least there is a possibility that Moon Studios will design a third offshoot of the popular Metroidvania series in five to ten years.
