Nintendo wants to reach 155 million Switches by March 2025 – News

For now, Nintendo has completed its exercise with a total of 141.32 million Switches worldwide, including 1.96 million distributed between January and March 2024. 35.72 million games were sold during this same quarter, for a total of 1.23 billion , more than ever a record for the manufacturer. The year was marked by the success of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which exceeded 20 million copies distributed, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder which already has 13.44 million since its release last October.

More modest releases from the last fiscal quarter are Princess Peach Showtime and Mario vs. Donkey Kong have sold 1.22 and 1.12 million copies respectively worldwide as of March 31, 2024. Pikmin 4 was also well received with its 3.48 million, however no million in sight for Another Code Recollection.

If we add to this a boost like the colossal success of the animated film Super Mario Bros., the most profitable of the year 2023, or even a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which adds 8.18 million sales (for a total of 62 million), Nintendo presents a sparkling new balance sheet with a turnover which exceeds 10 billion euros and a net profit very close to 3 billion euros, a new house record. And this despite console sales down 12.6% and game sales down 6.7%.

A peaceful transition

We know that the current fiscal year will be the last during which the Switch will have free rein before the release of its successor. Nintendo therefore intends to take advantage of this to break a new record and reach 155 million in March 2025, which will put it ahead of the 154 million for the Nintendo DS. This rather ambitious objective involves distributing another 13.5 million Switches between April 2024 and March 2025, which is not that far from the 15.70 million for the financial year which has just ended. On the games side, Nintendo plans to distribute 165 million instead of 200 million for the previous year.

A year of transition requires, Nintendo expects lower financial results for the coming months, undoubtedly due to a less impactful catalog and potentially some promotions which would help to achieve the objectives set if necessary. For the period from April 2024 to March 2025, Nintendo is counting on a turnover of 8.13 billion euros (down 19%), an operating profit of 2.41 billion euros (down of 24%) and a net profit of 1.80 billion euros (down 39%). Results which, however, do not take into account the possible launch of the Switch 2 before the end of March 2025.
