In order to use all online features of the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and their games, you always need the latest system version and the latest game patches. We’ll show you here how you can trigger an update for the console and games manually.

Start system update and find out version number

By default, the Nintendo Switch consoles automatically download the latest update and inform you about the installation the next time you start it. If your console does not do this, you have deactivated automatic software updates or your console has not been connected to the WLAN for a long time, you can also initiate the update process manually.

The update works the same on the Nintendo Switch 2, the regular Switch, the “Switch Lite” and the “Switch OLED model”. An offline update via USB stick is not possible on any switch system.

You can also trigger game updates manually. To do this, proceed as follows:
