New miniatures game announced by Games Workshop

Games Workshop, the company behind the “Warhammer” franchise, has announced a new miniatures game. We'll tell you what ends up on the table later.

The co-op shooter “Warhammer 40,000: Darktide” launched on PC in November 2022. A version for Xbox Series X/S followed roughly a year later. A Playstation release remained missing until today. Now a special board game version with miniatures will follow.

The announcement was made on the website of Warhammer Community.com. There you can get a first look at the game mechanics, materials and, above all, the miniatures included. In the implementation, one to four players have to complete related missions together. These are based on the world of “Darktide”. That means it goes into the dark streets in and beneath the macropolis city of Tertium.

To save the city from Chaos corruption, players face traitorous Guardsmen and Poxwalkers. The characters themselves were more or less voluntarily recruited from prisons by the Inquisition and plunge into battle on Tertium. The rules of the board game follow the rules of the popular “Kill Team” series from “Warhammer 40,000”.

Miniatures in Darktide: The Miniature Game

Just like the video game template, there are four classes to choose from, including Veteran, Zealot, Ogryn and Psyker. All four are included as miniatures and can be glued together and then painted by fans themselves, as is common with Games Workshop games.

Opposite them are the traitor guardsmen of the 6th Möbian Regiment, who, in addition to special weapons and equipment – from grenade launchers and flamethrowers to communication devices and long guns – also bring laser rifles and bayonets into the fight. There are also roving gangs of Poxwalkers.

The enemies are also included in the box as miniatures, so “Darktide: The Miniature Game” comes with 20 figures.

Target group and release

The game is aimed particularly at beginners in the tabletop hobby and offers short, simple missions in the “Warhammer 40,000” universe. According to Games Workshop, it can also be used as a template for getting started with the “Kill Team” series.

To date there is no information about a planned release date. The price is also unknown. But if you look at the prices of the “Kill Team” games, it should be around 80 to 100 euros.
