Never Again Will I Play CoD on PlayStation or Xbox!

CoD players have an easy time playing on the console. After all, Aim Assist is basically half an aimbot, right? A quick trip into the world of Warzone on the Xbox taught me otherwise. CoD players on PlayStation and Xbox have a damn hard time. And I take my hat off to everyone who ventures into Warzone on console.

Aloof PC gamer: “It can’t be that difficult!”

Every Sunday, two friends and I take a short detour to the Warzone or the DMZ and indulge in lively digital grimace shooting. While an old college friend and I are on the PC and face our opponents with the mouse and keyboard, the last person in the group is playing on the PS5 and with the controller – Cheers to crossplay!

When I end my digital life prematurely and watch one of the two, I usually shout the following sentences into the microphone:

“How could you not meet him?”
“Oh come on! The shot was super easy!”
“Do you shoot so badly on purpose?”

In short: I was a real dick, who had no idea what he was talking about. Up until this point, I had specifically avoided first-person shooters on the console. Without mouse and keyboard, without me!

However, one fateful evening would forever change my attitude towards my Konsolero friends. When I drove to my family, I had to leave my gaming PC behind. Instead, I packed the Xbox Series S and the matching controllerso that I could still play CoD with everyone again on Sunday evening.

Aim Assist will fix it! Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that …

After a few initial difficulties – the servers tend to bitch at the weekend – we ended up back in the game. And after just a few seconds I became painfully aware: Playing shooters on the console is much harder than you think! The Aim Assist helps me keep enemies in sight at short to medium distances, but the feature is almost ineffective at long distances. In the end, Aim Assist is still just that: an aim aid and not an aim bot.

The result: My KD plummeted and I was at the bottom of the scoreboard in our group most of the time. I was ashamed. Not for my substandard performance in the game, but above all for all the stupid comments that I had repeatedly made to my two friends over the past few months. I remorsefully admitted to myself that I had made a big mistake. That one evening on the console opened my eyes.

Since then, I have shown significantly more understanding for my team members – especially since I myself am anything but infallible:

The takeaway: console gamers, you deserve my respect!

But I haven't become a selfless Samaritan since my trip to the console. Even today, I still give my mates feedback from time to time that is extremely unconstructive. However, the frequency of my smack talk has decreased significantly. Before I open my mouth, I often ask myself: “Could you have done a better job? No, right? Then just shut up and let the boy gamble in peace!”

I will always be a hothead on the digital battlefield, But I will try to keep my unqualified comments to myself in the future.
