Netflix pulls the plug on action series after one season: Is the streaming platform cleaning house?

A cancellation orchestrated by Netflix

The ax fell a little less than two months after the release of the first and therefore only season. This Netflix Original with Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Justin Chien (Continuum) and San Song Li and broadcast on January 4, 2024, nevertheless received excellent feedback, but that wasn't enough to convince the streaming platform to give it a second chance. What's more, no fan movement on social networks came from this TV show.

Crowned with a score of 84% from the press and 90% from the spectators, this action comedy was canceled after a first run of 8 episodes. The Brothers Sun thus ends in indifference. Despite a second place among the most watched series on Netflix during its first five weeks of broadcast, it never exceeded 7 million weekly viewers. Not surprisingly, the North American firm preferred to play it safe (and save several million US dollars) in order to focus its resources on successful series and other new releases.

When the boss of a powerful Taiwan triad is taken down by a mysterious assassin, his eldest son, legendary killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien), travels to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen (Michelle Yeoh), and Bruce (Sam Song Li), his naive little brother from whom the family has always hidden his true activities… until now.
