My colleagues think I’m crazy, but I’ll pay another 70 euros for this huge RPG on the PS5

This role-playing game deserves a second chance.

A comment from Daniel Boldt

The space role-playing game Starfield is coming to the PlayStation 5. Probably very soon. At least that’s what a well-informed leaker claims. That’s music to my ears because I’ve been waiting to experience this RPG again on the PS5 for a while – I’m happy to pay full price for that.

Starfield will be released on PlayStation 5 in April

Starfield was originally released in September 2023 for Xbox Series X|S and Steam. Since then, however, many players have become disillusioned. The extremely ambitious game only partially lived up to its high expectations – this is also reflected in the cautious user reviews on Steam, which are only 63 percent positive.

And frankly, the criticism is justified. Starfield is unwieldy in many ways, the character models are creepy and actually you often think that everything could have been so much better. And yet I played and loved the game at the end of 2023. The lore, the atmosphere and the overall package captivated me for several hours. Unfortunately, Starfield is one of those games that only starts to click after 15 to 20 hours.

In this respect, I will immediately pull out my debit card when the game is re-released for the PlayStation 5 next April. According to insider and leaker billbi_kun, who is also regularly correct in other announcements, Starfield will appear on the Sony console on April 7th (source: X). Supposedly in two different versions:

  • Standard Edition (49.99 euros)
  • Premium Edition (69.99 euros)

The Premium Edition will likely include the Shattered Space story expansion – as well as skins and in-game credits. This version has been available for the Xbox family and the PC for a while.

Starfield isn’t perfect, but it’s still good

The story DLC alone is reason enough for me to start a new run on the PS5. Because even though I’ve played the original up and down, I skipped the DLC at the time. I know this one doesn’t have the best reputation either, but we’re back to square one. I liked Starfield. In my opinion, underneath the rough core there is a really great role-playing game, especially if you find space more exciting than dragons.
