Ranking basis

So what is the basis and system of QS university rankings? According to its official website, there are mainly five indicators:

Academic Reputation, Employer reputation, Citations Paper, H-Index Citations, and International Research Network.

academic reputation

Based on feedback from academics, this indicator shows which universities are considered by other academics to be outstanding in specific areas of research. Survey results were then filtered based on respondents' identified areas of expertise.

employer reputation

Employer reputation indicators are derived from survey responses from global graduate employers. Employers were asked to identify institutions they believed performed well in recruiting graduates. They were also asked to indicate the disciplines in which they would prefer to recruit.

Number of literature citations

All cited data are from Elsevier Scopus. Minimum publication thresholds are set for each discipline to avoid anomalies due to low numbers of highly cited papers.

Both the minimum publication threshold and the weighting of citation metrics are adjusted to best reflect prevailing publication and citation patterns in a given discipline.

H-Index

The H-index is a way of measuring the productivity and impact of a subject or department within a university. The index is based on the scholar's most cited collection of papers and the number of times they have been cited in other publications.

International Research Network (IRN)

The International Research Network Index reflects an institution's ability to geographically diversify its international research network through the establishment of sustainable research partnerships with other higher education institutions.
