Apparently the developers at Nightdive Studios were planning a so-called shadow drop with the remaster of the horror classic “The Thing”. However, Microsoft could have turned out to be a spoilsport, as the Xbox makers quickly leaked the possible release date.
One of the projects that the developers at Nightdive Studios, who specialize in remasters and remakes, have been working on in recent months was “The Thing: Remastered”.
The new edition is being released for the PC and consoles and brings back the iconic horror classic from 2002 in a technically and playfully polished version. The only thing that was unclear was when we could expect the release of “The Thing: Remastered”. Nightdive Studios recently only spoke of a planned release this year.
For clarity one could recent article on Xbox Wire worry in which Microsoft anticipated a surprise and accidentally announced the release date of “The Thing: Remastered” too early.
Is it the beginning of December?
As can be seen from the article on Xbox Wire, “The Thing: Remastered” will be released on December 5, 2024, next Thursday. The PC Gaming Show takes place on the same day.
This suggests that Nightdive Studios wanted to present the horror remake at the event and then release it in the form of a shadow drop.
A shadow drop is a release that occurs parallel to or shortly after a presentation of a title. Even though Nightdive Studios has not yet confirmed the date mentioned on Xbox Wire, we can assume that it is correct.
In the current case, we are not dealing with the first time that surprises have been anticipated on Xbox Wire or in the Xbox Store and dates have been revealed too early.
What does the remaster offer?
The content of “The Thing” does not change in the remaster. Just like in the original from 2002, we slip into the role of Captain JF Blake. In “The Thing” the protagonist returns to the US research facility Outpost #31 and is not only confronted with icy temperatures in the Arctic tundra.
In addition, a deadly alien creature is making the facility unsafe. Since the creature has the ability to take possession of people, in “The Thing” it is up to you to ensure the survival of your team and find out which of your comrades-in-arms you can still trust.
“The Thing: Remastered” is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Switch. Graphical improvements include reworked textures, character models and animations. Of course, the developers also tweaked the resolution and frame rate.
Depending on the platform, the remaster supports display in 4K and up to 120 FPS.
