Okay, fans of solid fantasy role-playing games can mark October 11, 2024. Then Metaphor: ReFantazio, the new creation from Persona 5 creator Katsura Hashino and his Studio Zero, will be released. The platforms named are PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, although a version for Switch is also rumored.
When Metaphor: ReFantazio is released, in addition to the Standard Edition, it will also receive a well-stocked Collector's Edition that includes additional goodies for Atlus' 35th anniversary.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is set in the fantasy kingdom of Euchronia. The game is about the assassination of the king and a royal tournament to determine the successor. As a boy from the Elda tribe, considered inferior in the world, you move through various villages, cities and other areas to gather support.

Parallel to the new trailer and the date, there was also a deep dive that introduced you to several elements of the game in more detail. Metaphor: ReFantazio relies on turn-based combat, similar to Persona or Shin Megami Tensei, but offers you the opportunity to kill low-level opponents with real-time actions. Only when higher-level opponents come into play does the game switch to turn-based combat.
When it comes to your group, the developers give you a lot of freedom by allowing you to choose different archetypes (basically classes) for each member of your squad, which sometimes has an impact on the appearance. It is also important to build a relationship with your companions in order to, among other things, activate new archetypes and various bonuses outside of combat, not entirely dissimilar to the Persona system.
Metaphor: ReFantazio should also offer you a lot of scope. For example, there are more dungeons than in any of the developers' previous games. There are main dungeons as part of the story and side dungeons as optional challenges. On your journey you will come across different cities where you will be provided with activities. However, these are only available for a limited time, because similar to Persona, Metaphor also has a calendar system. But you can do whatever you want within this time window.
You travel the game world with the Gauntlet Runner, an armored vehicle, and during your travels you have time to explore the environments or interact with your team. The external areas are semi-open areas in which you can spot opponents and then start the fight if you wish.
