The developers ofHelldiverse 2 must be popping the champagne: their game, available since February 8 on PlayStation 5 and PC, is a huge success. On Steam, no game published by PlayStation has had a better launch (with a record peak that tickles the 200,000 people connected at the same time).

Helldiverse 2 is therefore becoming a small phenomenon. And maybe you want to join the adventure. Be careful, however, this is not a very easy experience to understand. There are a few points to know to calmly embark on this title which adopts a very tasty second-degree tone.

Our 6 tips before discovering Helldivers 2

Understand that it is realistic gameplay

Despite a decidedly zany tone, Helldiverse 2 is based on rather realistic gameplay. There are several things to consider when playing:

• Shots can injure or even kill your allies. Aim well!
• Speaking of aim, it takes your movements into account. To be precise, you have to be still, or even lying on the ground. You can also switch to first person view, if necessary (press the mouse wheel or the right stick of the controller).
• Weapon reloading is not automatic. Worse: if you reload while you have bullets left, they will be permanently lost. If you are used to reloading all the time in other games for safety reasons, don't do it in Helldivers 2. Another tip though: leave a bullet in the magazine before reloading to save a few seconds.

Use your strategies wisely

Stratagems are aids provided by your ship. They can be offensive (air strikes, turrets) or supportive (arsenal pieces, ammunition crates). They ask you to enter a sequence then choose a point of impact (yes, you can kill someone with it). Some have unlimited use (but with a recharge time to respect). We recommend that you always start by asking for a heavy weapon after landing, such as the machine gun — essential for getting rid of certain hard-shelled enemies. And, between each moment of high tension (an invasion), don't forget to stock up on ammunition. Tip: You can call a crate for multiple players.

Unlock the gatling as a priority

As we progress in Helldiverse 2, we can unlock new strategies, increasingly powerful and/or specialized in particular tasks. One of the options to buy first is none other than the gatling, a turret capable of doing heavy damage when placed in the right place (spoiler: it can also turn you into shreds if you walk past it). It thus rids you of the small creatures so that you can concentrate on the larger ones. Gatling can be acquired at level 5, for 4,000 points. Note that there are daily missions to earn as many credits as possible.

Search missions for resources

When we land on a planetHelldiverse 2, we notice that a timer is started. You actually have a time limit to complete your objective, knowing that you will also have to carry out an extraction (that is to say: escape). We might be tempted to hurry, for fear of not succeeding on the expected deadline. In reality, these long minutes allowed you to explore the surroundings in order to accomplish some additional tasks. The goal ? Obtain valuable resources, which will help you improve your ship. You will also earn some experience points, knowing that progression is quite slow in Helldiverse 2. Another thing to keep in mind: search your corpse when you fall in combat.

Learn to play cooperatively

Helldiverse 2 is an experience designed to be played cooperatively: up to four people can work together to bring democracy to the galaxy. But the idea is not to live your life in your own corner. Quite the contrary: we quickly understand that communication and synchronization are the keys to success, especially when you climb the difficulty. Don't shoot each other, cover yourself, share actions, warn yourself when you use a stratagem, adopt different and complementary builds to respond to adversity (especially true in higher difficulties), resurrect yourself if necessary… Helldiverse 2 is a pure cooperative game, which requires learning to play together.

Don't face the robots right away

There are two enemy factions in Helldiverse 2 : giant insects (reminiscent of Starship Troopers) and robots (reminiscent of Terminator). Wait before tackling the robots, which prove to be much more complicated to face (they shoot). Insects offer the opportunity to train well and, above all, to unlock a maximum of stratagems to respond to a greater threat.
