LittleBigPlanet 3: Server set to “unlimited time offline”

Due to technical problems, the servers of the creative platformer “LittleBigPlanet 3” have been offline since the beginning of 2024. As an official statement suggests, we should no longer expect online features to make a comeback. Instead, the servers will remain offline “indefinitely.”

With “LittleBigPlanet 3,” the creative platformer and level builder entered its third round in November 2014. While the predecessors were created at Media Molecule, Sumo Digital was responsible for the development of the third part.

Unfortunately for the community, technical issues arose earlier this year that resulted in the PS4 servers being offline since January. For a title like “LittleBigPlanet 3”, which thrives on its community and user-generated content, this is a massive turning point. After it was unclear in recent weeks how the creative adventure would continue, those responsible at PlayStation have now provided an unpleasant update in this regard.

Unfortunately, as the company announced on the official website and on the “LittleBigPlanet” X channel, improvement is no longer expected. Instead, it says that the servers will remain offline indefinitely.

These features and content are no longer available

“Due to ongoing technical issues that resulted in the LittleBigPlanet 3 servers for PlayStation 4 being temporarily taken offline in January 2024, it has been decided to shut down the servers indefinitely. All online services, including access to other players' creations for LittleBigPlanet 3, are no longer available,” said the official statement.

Regarding the affected content, those responsible added in the “Decommissioning of servers” section: “User-generated content (also UGC, user-generated content) that is stored locally on your PS4 console will continue to be available to you.”

“New content you create can be played on your PS4 console, but cannot be shared.”

Developers say goodbye

In addition to the online features, the shutdown of the servers affects several million community levels that have been created in recent years and have always offered entertaining ideas.

On X or Twitter, the developers took the opportunity to say goodbye and thank the community for their support.

Here, Sumo Digital said: “It is of course with a very heavy heart that we share today's news and thank you for your continued love and support over the years.”

“LittleBigPlanet 3” was released in November 2014 for the PS3 and PS4. The servers of the PS3 version went offline in 2021. Now the PS4 version is also affected.
