Only recently did news make the rounds that Take-Two Interactive was heavily involved and now there appear to be the first victims, including the developers of Kerbal Space Program 2.

Unfortunately, layoffs and studio closures are not uncommon news these days. It was only recently announced that Take-Two Interactive, parent company of 2K and Rockstar, is no exception and is both putting staff on the road and canceling projects. It now seems clear which studios are affected, among other things.

Accordingly, Intercept Games will be closed. A corresponding Report says a whopping 70 employees will be affected by the closure. Intercept Games recently launched Kerbal Space Program 2, but its early access was met with mixed reviews from players.

In a statement from Take-Two to GamesIndustry.biz it states succinctly: “On April 16, Take-Two announced a cost reduction program to increase efficiencies across the company and improve the company's margin profile while continuing to invest for growth. As part of this effort, the company is streamlining its pipeline , is canceling several projects in development and streamlining its organizational structure, thereby reducing staff and reducing future hiring needs.”

What will happen next with Kerbal Space Program 2 is initially uncertain. According to initial reports, Private Division, Take-Two's indie publishing label, is taking care of everything else.

But Intercept Games doesn't seem to be the only studio to fall victim to the red pen, because according to one Message from Jason Schreier (Bloomberg) Studio Roll7 is also facing closure. Roll7 was acquired by Private Division in 2021 and has made a name for itself with OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome. An official confirmation is still pending, but the report is apparently based on an internal message to the Take-Two staff.

As recently reported, the job cuts at Take-Two affect around 5 percent of the workforce at Take-Two Interactive; In absolute terms, that's around 600 employees who have to look for a new job. The company is also selling parts of its office space and discontinuing several projects that were previously in development. Shortly before, Take-Two had bought Gearbox Entertainment, including the Borderlands trademark rights, from the struggling Embracer Group for $460 million.
