Teasers

Jörg throws himself into version 1.5 of the latest part of the cult series Jagged Alliance. Special mercenaries are not uncommon here, but in this case they are very special because many of them are GG users!

Jörg Langer's Letsplay on Jagged Alliance is financed via crowdfunding. If you participate, you will not only enable further episodes (the goal: to complete the game!), but you will also have the chance to enter the game as a mercenary.

As a special thank you, the three top donors at the start of the crowdfunding campaign and one crowdfunder drawn from the lottery pot became the founding members of the mercenary troop “The Henchmen”: Commander Kriesing, Medical Sniper Moe90, Hobbyist Nivek and Grenadier Lodger.

This is what Jagged Alliance 3 is all about
As is usual with the cult Jagged Alliance, the mercenary leader takes you to an exotic location where you help local good people against militant villains. In the case of Jagged Alliance 3, Jörg and his henchmen help the president's daughter after her father is overthrown by an evil major. To restore order, he conquers sector after sector of the island in exciting turn-based tactical battles and thus also takes over the valuable mines and other facilities of Gran Chien. Not to enrich himself, of course, but the wages have to be paid somehow – and of course that is not the only task when it comes to keeping your troops in shape and preparing them for the next assignments.

The mission briefing

  • Letsplay game: Jagged Alliance 3 (1.51)
  • Episode frequency: 3×40 minutes per week
  • Episodes per season: 12 (=1 month)
  • Goal: Play through – that means quickly and without the “every side mission is completed” ambition, but of course with enough exploration and earning money.
  • Difficulty level: Commando (Donor decision at the end of each season whether to increase/decrease or leave the same). Rare saving/loading allowed.
  • Mods: Only Chance to Hit and the necessary for the special rule
  • Donor Bonus 1: Every donor receives Profile medal(s)
  • Donor Bonus 2: The donors of the 1st season appear in the credits.
  • Donor Bonus 3: All donors vote on the Squad names You can choose between “Ausputzer”, “GamersGrobals” and up to three selected by Jörg from the comments below. Be creative and make the AI enemies tremble!
  • Special Rule 1: The 3 main donors and 1 randomly selected donor appear as mercenaries with their GG username and form the starting team. There is of course also a special medal.
  • Special Rule 2: 1 user mercenary is added per season. From the second season onwards there will be five user characters. The new mercenary will be raffled off among all donors, with each 5 euros of the previous donation amount resulting in 1 ticket. This way every donor has a chance, but the “more generous” ones have a bigger chance.

Special Rule Explanation
“Join the team!” they said… but how? The special rules mercenaries are created in consultation with Jörg (portrait, skill points, traits), because in order for the starting team to “work”, roles such as medic and mechanic must be covered and everyone must be able to handle at least one type of weapon. If you are the main donor and don't know the game, you can leave your mercenary entirely to Jörg, “silent donors” can also do without it altogether, in which case another donor takes over.

The special rule (possible through the mod multi-imp by SkunkXL) changes the game balance, as the constant pressure of money from mercenary fees is removed in the first few weeks of the game. However, each of your own mercenaries costs a one-time fee of $6,999, so that after the game starts, only $2,004 is left, which is enough for a short-term engagement of a loser, er, inexpensive mercenary.

We will soon need to recruit more mercenaries; in the midgame, two squads of 6 and a maintenance squad (two to four mercenaries who heal, repair and train militias) are normal, in the lategame, three squads of 6 and a maintenance squad. So we get the best of both worlds: user participation and the quirky JA3 mercenaries with their conversations.

As written above, the number of user mercenaries will increase over the course of the seasons. However, the number of team members in the game is limited to 16 (and 6 per squad). If we reach season 7, that would mean that up to 10 of the 16 hired warriors would be users. Since finances should no longer be a problem from the mid-game onwards, I don't expect this to have any “imba” effects.

By the way: Mercenaries can be used in Jagged Alliance 3 die permanentlythen in the case of user mercenaries they will be replaced with the next main donor and a new character. Due to the limitation of the mod for your own mercenaries by a limited number of portraits (extended by the mod AIM: Even More Mercs), this only applies once per starting user mercenary and until the end of Season 3.

As usual, you can donate by clicking on the medals or by transferring money to our account. The Let's Play will start as soon as the first month is funded, the more and the sooner you contribute, the faster. So far, 100% of our Let's Play crowdfunding has been funded.

We hope you enjoy this episode!
